Carbon Footprint

Since the founding of our brand, we have looked to minimise the impact our drinks have on the environment. Whether it be our decision not to use PET bottles, using packaging that is recyclable to reduce waste that ends up in landfill, or the processing of ingredients as close to source as possible to retain quality and avoid unnecessary freight, through to the use of renewable energy at our head office, we challenge ourselves and our partners to make the right choices. Nowhere is this truer than in how we are responding as a business to the climate crisis.

While our actions to date provide a solid foundation for us to play our part, we know we are in a position to do more, not just over the next 5-10 years but now.

That is why, over the last 18 months, we have worked in partnership with experts at Green Element and engaged our partners throughout our supply chain to carry out a lifecycle analysis of our drinks. In doing so, we have been able to gain an in-depth understanding of our overall carbon footprint*: from the way our ingredients are sourced, to the manufacturing and transportation of our packaging and products, through to disposal.

However, measuring is just the first step. We realise that to make real progress in the fight against climate change, we need to reduce our emissions. This is not just those that we produce as a business (GHG Protocol Scope 1 & 2) - be it the energy we use in our offices or the fuel we use in our cars – we also have to take ownership of the emissions throughout our supply chain (GHG Protocol Scope 3).

By setting targets in line with climate-science, we will be continuously challenging ourselves and building in our commitment across the entire company. We are working with our partners throughout our supply chain to identify and deliver emissions reduction projects that will make a meaningful difference together. This includes examining the potential of increasing the amount of renewable energy used by our co-packers, the feasibility of increasing the recycled content within our packaging and moving more of our manufacturing closer to our end markets.

We recognise that any reduction programme can take time to have the desired results and in producing our drinks there are emissions that are created that are unavoidable. Hence, we are also investing in projects in regions where we source our ingredients that enable us to offset our emissions, enabling us to begin to make a difference to our climate impact now.
